As an eBay consultant, one of the most frequently asked questions I hear is, "Where can I find things to sell on eBay?" Inventory is all around you - if you know where to look.
Before attempting to sell anything on eBay, check completed listings to determine the average selling price of an item. You can then use this information to decide if the item is worth selling based on the price you can acquire it. You will fare much better selling on eBay if you routinely take time to research sold items before listing items for sale.
Below are some common sources for eBay inventory.
1) Your own home. Look around and see what you have that you have never used, received as a gift and won't use, your kids have outgrown, or you no longer need.
2) Garage sales. This will be other people getting rid of the same items listed in #1.
3) Thrift stores. Good venue to find gently used clothing, or even clothing that has never been worn that still has the tags.
4) Closeout stores like Big Lots. The inventory changes based on what the store can acquire. Check often for new stock.
5) Clearance sales. Walgreens, Target, WalMart, and Rite-Aid all have clearance sections on the aisle endcaps. Some of the health and beauty items are near their expiration date but are still perfectly good and you will have time to list and sell them before they expire.
6) Off-price stores. Look at Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and SteinMart. Look for clearance or final markdowns.
7) Salvage stores. Pallets or lots of items can often be a huge bargain when purchased from a salvage store.
8) Internet clearance. Check sites like Sierra Trading Post, Overstock.com, Kohls, Sears, and JCPenny for clearance sales. Many offer free shipping.
9) Make your own items to sell. Crafts, personalized items, or even services like web design or consulting.
10) Become a Trading Assistant and sell items for other people for a fee. Customers will bring their items to you and you can charge a commission for selling their items.
