Rocket City Sales eBay Book Selling Tip
by guest author Lori McAulliffe
Research, Research, Research before you list a book for sale. I prefer using Abebooks.com to estimate an overall value of a book, or rarity of a book. Next, keep condition in mind when looking for books to buy. Covers and dust jackets should be clean and free from tears, cuts or rips; inside pages should also be clean and free from tears, bent page corners, pencil marks, highlighter marks, and etc (exception is Textbooks).
If you do find a book with condition factors, when writing the auction description explain in detail any and all condition factors (we call them flaws) and take a good clear photo of the area with flaw. You can repair rips in covers and dust jacket with nice clear packing tape (3M brand works good) and gooey or gummy marks come off with Goo Gone and do not leave any trace of residue. Goo Gone can be found at your local drugstore or dollar store.
Editor's note: A few months ago, I found an antique set of Beatrix Potter story books at a thrift store. The dates were 1908 - 1930. I was torn whether to sell the books as a set, or individually. Lori advised me to sell them individually as collectors are all at different stages and may only need one book to complete their collection. Lori's advice helped me make over $200 profit on those books! Thanks for your post.
