On January 17, the US Postal Service announced that a new flat rate Priority Mail box will be available on March 3. The box will hold 50% more than the current largest Priority Mail box and will cost $12.95 to ship in the United States, and only $10.95 if shipped to military APO/FPO addresses. The new box measures 12x12x5 inches and can be used for for international shipping as well.
The same press release included information regarding Express Mail and Sunday
Service. A $12.50 premium for Sunday delivery was approved.
Be careful when using flat rate boxes. You may want to keep several different sizes of both regular Priority and Flat Rate Priority on hand. Pay close attention to the weight of your shipment. Sometimes it is less expensive to ship in a regular Priority Mail box than a flat rate box. Other times, you'll save money using the flat rate box. You can use the online calculator at USPS.com to compare pricing for flat rate and regular Priority Mail.
