If you are selling on eBay, no doubt you are uploading a lot of images within your listings, and on the gallery. (Since gallery is now free, there is no reason not to use it.) Here is a great trick for driving more traffic to your listings simply by naming the file and adding some alt text laden with relevant keywords, instead of leaving you photos named with a random number name like "100_6836."
Simply take some time and thought and name your image using the same key words as your title. If you are selling a vintage copy of the book "Gone with the Wind," you might name your photo, "Vintage_Gone_with_the_Wind_book." If you are selling a Ralph Lauren golf shirt, name your photo something like, "Mens_Ralph_Lauren_polo_purple." Why go to all this trouble? The name you create for your image becomes the alt tag for it, and search engines can pick it up.
eBay is absolutely full of photos, and you can use this to your advantage. Even if you are a business using eBay as your clearance center, for lead generation, or for building your customer base with post-transactional marketing, eBay is a very efffective promotional venue and naming your images can help customers find you.
