eBay Alternatives - Other Websites for Selling

I've been receiving a lot of questions from eBay sellers who are looking for other venues to sell in the wake of the new eBay fees and feedback system. Here is a list of options. Keep in mind that these sites do not have the traffic or advertising budgets that eBay has established over the years. Aalso keep in mind that all of these sites are different, and have different fees and policies. However, if you are considering selling on an additional site, or jumping ship all together, perhaps you will find this list helpful.

Amazon- eBay's biggest competitor. Fees are higher, and Amazon sets the shipping price. Many ex-eBayers are happy here, others find it more expensive.

ePier - You don't pay if you don't sell - no listing fees, only a final value fee if your item sells.

Onlineauction - Auction format (5 styles), no listing fees, no final value fees, one low monthly membership fee.Store%20closed.jpg

Etsy - Trading venue for handmade items. 20 cents for each item listed - listing lasts 4 months. 3.5% commission fee after your item sells. Great for crafters.

Bidville - No lisitng fees. Final value fees 5% of sale price less than $25.

eCrater - Store offered free of charge. Fees are charged to those wishing to advertise their offerings in premium positions. In other words, if you want your item seen, you'll pay more.

iOffer - No listing fees. Commissions range from 50 cents to $5 depending on the sale price.

I've heard people complain about eBay and I hear people who rave about it as well. Personally, I like Amazon better. Everything seems to be so organized and I like how they present the products and the reviews that go along with them. I'm actually a bit surprised to learn how many other alternatives there are. I must make it a point to explore some of them soon. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Jay. Thanks for visiting. In your opinion, how do Amazon fees compare to eBay fees? How do you feel about Amazon setting the shipping fees for its sellers? Your input is appreciated!

Thanks for sharing this list. Some I knew of, others I'll definitely check out.

One of my major issues with sites like Amazon or even Half.com, which I've also considered, is that there is a wait time for Sellers to receive payment for items sold. Effectively, an item sells, the buyer pays and the seller ships (out of their own pocket) only to have to wait to be "paid" by the site according to their payment schedule. I've read where new sellers with Amazon can expect that initial wait period to be between 30 and 45 days. For me, that's too much like waiting for a paycheck from an employer. I just don't like the feel of it. Meanwhile, the buyer has received their item, as has the site it was sold on (which is also collecting interest on all monies held by them during this "wait" period), but the seller must wait; And, this, AFTER shelling out money for shipping which, as Suzanne stated, is sometimes set by the site and not necessarily the actual best shipping price. I've tried to reason that I may sell more on these sites by broadening my horizons, but I've yet to get comfortable enough with this system to actual list anything on either of them.

Ebay may not be the only auction site out there and they certainly have their share of fee hikes; but for me, when I weigh it all out, they're still the best option despite the drawbacks.

Great info - I personally will buy occasionally on Ebay but NEVER sell anything again.
Now I do most of my business on a good quality eBay alternative site called www.plunderhere.com. Seems very busy and a really nice forum. I am not used to getting any customer service from Ebay sso this is very refreshing.

I've switched to www.wild4comics.com from ebay for selling my comics. It's got no cost.

Craigslist is free

Your article is timely. I also am looking at other sites. I haven't picked a favorite yet, but the ones you mention are definitely in the running.

I am also considering Ebid.net, Wagglepop, Webidz, Ubid, Blujay, Bidz.com, and more. I have a list of sites on my blog at:

I hope you like it! :-)

» eBay Sellers Grievance List- You've Got to be Kidding Me! from PowerSellerKing
I was poking around on the eBay forum Seller Central, and came across this post titled, "GRIEVANCES, MISSION AND TERMS STATEMENT." Apparently this seller decided to send his list of grievances to eBay headquarters. The list is quite... [Read More]
