Many eBay sellers make a nice profit selling gently used clothing on eBay. One might ask, "Why would anyone want to buy used clothing?" There are several reasons.
1) Clothing is expensive. Frugal, resourceful consumers often look for gently used items in thrift stores and garage sales. To many people, buying gently used clothing is no different than receiving a hand-me-down as a child. Used clothing may have many years of wear left.
2) Fine, quality fabrics can last for decades. This is a situation where "they just don't make it like they used to." Many fine vintage cashmere sweaters, wool coats, or leather items can fetch a high price on eBay.
3) International customers want brand names. Many international customers don't have the abundance we have in the United States. Furthermore, with the decline in the US dollar, an international customer's money goes further when buying from Americans.
4) Money is tight. With the housing market down and gas prices up, consumers need a break. Many don't mind buying gently used clothing so that they can still wear their favorite designer labels or fine fabrics.
If you are looking for a way to make some extra money in your spare time, try selling used clothing on eBay. The demand definitely exists. Visit your local thrift stores, consignment stores, garage sales, and flea markets and look for designer labels and fine fabrics like cashmere and silk. Focus on items that were expensive when they were new. Learn the names of the designer brands. Do you research on eBay and pay attention to what is selling.
