Many eBay sellers acquire their products at garage sales, yard sales, flea markets, estate sales, and thrift stores. These items are acquired inexpensively through these sources, however, a great deal of time must be invested in searching for the items.
As an eBay Power Seller since 2003, I have sold over 14,000 items from just about every category on eBay. I've reduced "garage sale-ing" for profit to a science. I keep a mental list of garage sale items that are good, consistent sellers on eBay. Below are just a few examples of items I usually find.
Home party type items (Pampered Chef, Avon, Mary Kay) - sales reps often quit the business and sell off their remaining inventory at garage sales. You can often find boxes of brand new cosmetics very inexpensively to resell as individual items on eBay.
Children's electronic toys - kids outgrow learning games and toys quickly. Many are in like new condition and you can pick them up for less than $5 to resell for $20 or more. ![]()
Children's sports and activity equipment and clothing - kids don't play a sport long enough for the equipment or clothing to wear out. Children often outgrow the clothing or shoes before they wear out. You can find items for $3-$5 to resell for $20-%30 and more.
Garage saleing takes some time and practice, but once you start seeing the profits on eBay, it becomes fun. Check out my guide on garage sale-ing for profit.
