I'm voting for the mom, Dawn Meehan, who sold the Pokemon cards for several hundred dollars. The cards weren't all that valuable. The attention came when Dawn wrote the eBay listing describing her comical grocery shopping trip with six kids when cards were stowed away in the cart. I remember reading the listing. At one point she said, "The pack contains an energy card. I tried it, and it doesn't work." I guess with six kids, energy doesn't come easily.
The eBay listing received thousands of page views, and made this blogging mom an overnight sensation. Dawn appeared on ABC World News and has two book deals in the works. Her blog, Because I Said So, receives over 100,000 hits a day
and she makes a nice income selling advertising space there. She has started a second blog with some of her mom friends, Mamas Like, which offers reviews of products created by moms.
The Pokemon card eBay listing is an example of creative marketing at its best. A pack of Pokemon cards, a creative writer, and eBay - a strategy for fame and fortune!
