According to Bankrate's Annual Gift Card Survey, gift card purchases are expected to reach a record high during the 2007 holiday season with a predicted total sale of $35 million. Among the largest segment of the population receiving gift cards: teenagers.
Why are gift cards so popular? A gift card allows the recipient to choose his own gift - the giver isn't stumped guessing what to buy. Gift cards are less expensive to mail than an actual package, many can be purchased and redeemed online, returns aren't necessary, and most gift cards don't have an expiration date.
