eBay sellers are always looking for creative ways to increase their bottom line by reducing expenses. Here are a few suggestions for obtaining free boxes and packing supplies in your own neighborhood.
1) Order free Priority Mail supplies from USPS.com. These can be delivered directly to your door. Warning: Don't be too creative and turn the boxes inside out to use them for mail classes other than priority. This is prohibited by the USPS and if caught, you can be fined.
2) Check 24-hour retail establishments such as Wal-Mart and grocery stores late in the evening or in the early morning hours. The night shift will be stocking the shelves and the aisles will be littered with boxes and packing materials. The employees are only too happy to let you carry boxes out of the store.
3) Visit furniture stores and ask if you can have the heavyweight bubble wrap and cushioning material used to wrap the furniture for shipping. These items are usually
outside the store in the dumpster, but you'll gain the favor of the store employees if you ask before dumpster diving.
4) Make friends with the employees at your local deli and liquor store. The boxes used for deli meats and liquor are sturdy and perfect for shipping books by media mail. These boxes also work well for parcel post and fragile items.
5) Look on Craigslist under "for sale - free." Here in Atlanta, many businesses advertise free boxes and packing materials on Craigslist daily. You can also find listings for individuals who have recently moved and want to unload moving boxes.
