According to an article in the New York Post, Dan Rather’s Emmy has sold for $2,500 on eBay. The item title reads, “1972-1973 Emmy Statue Academy Award Rare” and sold for $2,499.99 on December 19. The auction ended with a Buy It Now and had only one bidder.
Dan Rather claims that he is not the seller. Mr. Rather enjoyed sharing awards and accolades with colleagues, staff members, and producers who were involved in his award-winning projects. Most likely, a staff member or producer sold the
item on eBay. This issue begs the question: How meaningful are these awards if they’re going to end up on eBay and anyone can purchase them to display in their home? What's going to be next on eBay - Olympic gold medals?
