
Have a look at this site: IBidFree.com. The logo looks like it was designed using clipart.
uBid looks like a cluttered mess and BidVille doesn't look much better. I like the overall look of Overstock but it isn't anything special.
The other top auction sites fall between cluttered, hokey and ugly in the site design department.
This baffles me. If there was one area that auction sites could set themeselves apart from eBay, it's design and usability and nobody gets it.
I want to see a pimped out AJAX interface that makes eBay look like AOL 1995. That's right, a site that would attract the TechCrunch crowd.
An auction site could get traction if the shopping experience was a lot cooler than everywhere else. A cool shopping experience might attract early adopter/shoppers and if you can attract the shoppers, the sellers will come.
